Newsworthy

So, does anyone want to know what my scary fun thing I did today was?!?! It was this:

Last week my sweet friend Sydney  ,(who's hubby Tom is a local news anchor) emailed me and asked if I would be interested in Tom doing a story on my cookies. After feeling like I was going to barf and hyperventilating, I agreed. So today Tom came over and filmed and did my interview.
I think Sydney is one of the nicest people I know, and Tom is the same way, so I honestly had no nerves by the time I had to talk. I'm not going to lie though, I am not looking forward to seeing myself on TV or hearing how awful my voice sounds, ha!

Thank you to those who said a prayer for my nerves, I felt them!
The peice will air Thursday morning and evening on the news.

A big thank you to my sweet hubby who kept the kids all day so that I could get ready for this. He just let me do my thing and took care of everything. Thank You Jason!

I'll be back with a YUMMY cake recipe later!

Thank Goodness Its Friday!

This week has been a crazy one around our house. I can't tell you how glad I am that ITS FRIDAY!!!!!!
Taylor turned 18 months this week and I'm still trying to figure out how thats possible.

One of my orders this week was for a baby shower for twin boys. I'm not going to lie, the sweet blue and green made me want another baby boy! (NOT NOW)

I used chevron and plaid to match the invitation, and put their names on simple white squares to offset the business of the polka dot bowties and patterned onesies.
I had so much fun doing these!

Sweet, simple, and very much boy!

I also did some cookies for a "Tangled" themed birthday party. The customer gave me her ideas of what she wanted and I mixed those with all of my google searches and came up with these:

Parker kept asking me why I was making "pans." Ha! I thought they turned out cute, and I hope Nora has a wonderful party!

Last, but not least was a princess party for Grace. Grace specifically requested pink, yellow, green, and purple for the colors. I loved that she picked these and was set on sticking to it. I thought these turned out very cute and girly, perfect for a 5 year old!

I hope everyone has a good weekend, and don't forget if you entered the giveaway on Kari Beth's blog, she's drawing a winner tonight! I can't wait to see who wins!

I'll be posting another yummy cake recipe this week so check back!

Lemon Mousse Cake

Ok, Here is the yummy lemon recipe I told you I would post today. I found this recipe in a Betty Crocker cake mix recipe book. I made this for my little sisters birthday and now both my older and younger sister ask for it every year.
The recipe in the book calls for a supermoist white cake mix, and a jar of lemon curd, but I usually make the cake and lemon curd from scratch. If you don't have the time to make it from scratch, the cake mix and the lemon curd you buy at the store is just as yummy.

 Lemon Mousse Cake

1 package Betty Crocker SuperMoist white cake mix
OR your favorite white cake from scratch
2 cups (heavy) whipping cream
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 jar (10 oz.) lemon curd
(I use the Betty Crocker recipe)
OR homemade lemon curd
2 tsps grated lemon peel

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottoms of two round pans.
2. Make your cake. Let it cool for 1 hr. I will post the recipe I use below.

3.Beat Whipping cream and powdered sugar in chilled medium bowl on high until stiff peaks form. Fold in the lemon curd and lemon peel.

4.Place 1 cake layer, rounded side down, on serving plate. Spread with one cup of the lemon mixture to withing 1/4 inch of the edge. Top with second cake. Frost side and top of cake with remaining lemon mixture.

Tada!! You are done!! Store it with some air flow in the refrigerator.

I went out to eat with some girlfriends tonight and promised Parker that when I got home he could try the cake first.

I think he approves!!!!!!!

and so did little sister :).

Super Moist White Cake
from Cooks.com

2 c flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c shortening
2 eggs
1 1/2 c sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/4 c milk

Preheat oven to 350. Mix shortening, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and milk. Then mix flour, baking powder and salt in another bowl. Then add dry ingredients to other mixture. Pour into desired pan/pans.
Bake for 20 minutes and then check your cake. If the edges are brown but the middle isn't done lower your oven temp to 340 and keep checking until the middle is cooked.
Every oven varies but I found 25-30 minutes to be a consistent cooking time.

If you like lemon I promise you won't be disappointed!!

A Birthday, A Bunting, and a Giveaway!

On February 4th my sweet neice Elle Louise turned 2! While in the party planning stages, her momma Kari Beth at www.kbislivingthehighlife.blogspot.com, asked me if I would do the cookies and cupcakes. Of course I said yes, and here is what we ended up with!!!

The invitation had a bunting with "Hooray" written across it, and immediately I knew I had to incorporate that into the cookies! I used the polka dots from the background of the invitation and put the bunting on top. I loved these cookies. They were fun, different and very Elle Louise!
I used all of the colors to make some fun polka dot 2's, and then copied some flowers from the napkins for the other two designs to break up the polka dots.
Fun, simple and sweet!

I also did the cupcakes for the party. Kari Beth wanted white cake and icing with a clean simple look. I used just a simple white cake, white icing, and filled them with yummy lemon filling. They were the perfect offset to the colorful cookies! I somehow managed to not get a pic of the cupcakes, but Kari Beth has some good ones on her blog so hop over there to see! (Sorry)

Lastly, if you like anything lemon, check back here tomorrow for the yummiest lemon recipe you will ever eat. EVER. Its a lemon mousse cake and I have yet to find anyone that doesn't like it. (If you try it and don't like it please don't burst my bubble. Just don't tell me :) )

I also have a couple of itty bitty taste testers that will be on here tomorrow to show you how yummy it
 is!

If you are interesting in winning 24 FREE cookies, yes FREE, head over to Kari Beth's blog and enter her giveaway! I am giving away two dozen cookies to the lucky winner!

Chevron and Dr. Seuss

My cookie orders this week were fun and colorful! My first order was for Emerson's first birthday. The theme was owls, so her mom wanted owls and something with her name on it. I used the colors she gave me and came up with some sweet little owls, and a chevron print cookie with her name on it. The colors her mom chose were perfect!

I love Chevron, and seriously fell in love with these Chevron cookies! I had to snap a few pics before I put a name on them because I loved how they all looked together.

Arent these colors so fun!?!?!
I also did some owls using the same colors. This is another perfect example of being creative with a cookie cutter. I used a tulip for these owls.

I always have to put a bow or flower on the owls I do for girls. It just finishes it off right :).

I also did a Dr. Seuss order. Who doesn't love Dr. Seuss?!

Anything that involves teal and red together is going to be good, add in Dr. Seuss and it doesn't get much better!

I have a ton of ideas running through my head for my next Dr. Seuss order!

I hope you all have enjoyed looking through these cookies as much as I enjoyed making them!

Angry Birds

WOW!!! I am so thankful for all of the sweet comments everyone has left on here. It has been so encouraging! I am having so much fun and I'm excited that I can share that with all of you!

A couple of months ago Jenna, from http://www.jennasjourneyblog.blogspot.com, contacted me about doing some angry bird cookies for her. Of course I said yes, and started searching for angry bird cookie cutters. I quickly learned there is no such thing, so I got creative!

Do you recognize these cutters???

If you guessed a Christmas ornament and a hershey kiss you were right! I used the hershey kiss for the yellow bird and the ornament for the blue, white and red birds, and the black bomb. I handcut the green bird and the pig.

These were so fun to do and I thought they turned out pretty cute!

I will work on getting back to all of my emails tonight, thank you for being patient with me! But for now I am off to finish some Dr. Seuss cookies!
